How You Know You are Moving: Water Slides

How does a Water Slide work?

Use this site to help you understand how a water slide works: http://entertainment.howstuffworks.com/water-slide.htm

1) Write a blog to explain in your own words how one works.

2) Design your own water slide by making a diagram. Include the following things:

  • Name of your water slide.

  • Arrows and labels for how your water slide works scientifically.

3) So, how do you know if a person ona water slide moves? How do you know if the water moves? Read page 440 in the text to find out.

A water slide has to have gravity, a slope, potential energy, kinetic energy, it also needs to be smooth so you don't hit bumps to slow you down. Friction keeps you on the slide.

A water slide has to have gravity because that is what pushes you down, It also has to have potential energy, and kinetic energy. You need potential energy so that you will fall farther. You need kinetic energy so that you will have motion.

When you are climbing up the stairs to the water slide you make potential energy. When you go down the slide, the potential energy turns into kinetic energy. Gravity pulls you down the track.

The Physics of Falling
Gravity pulls you down. Before you fall it is called potential energy. After you have fallen it is called kinetic energy. What keeps you on the slide is called friction. THe water lubricates the slide to reduce the friction between the slide and your body.

How waterslides work

Waterslides need to be smooth or else you will not go as fast. You has to have friction so you stay on the slide. Gravity pulls you down to the bottom. You need speed and water that runs from the top to the bottom. You need to have an angle.

It has to be smooth so you can go down. And the gravity pulls you down. It has to have friction. And it has to have no bumps. The water has to lubricate. It has to have an angle to force. You also need an exit flume to slow you down at the end of the slide.

The Physics Of Falling
The gravity pulls you down. Before you fall it is called Potinal Energy. After you have fallen it is called Kenedic Enerigy. What keeps you on the slide is called Friction. The water lubicates the slide to reduse the friction between the slide and your body.

A water slide works by using potetal, and kenatic energy. Gravity helps keep the rider on the slide throught the ride. Without gravity the rider would go WEEEEEEE, right off the slide. When you are climing up the stairs you are bilding up potencal energy.Thats how a water slide works.

PS The bottom must be smooth.

Water Slide

When you climb up the stairs to the water slide, you are gaining potinal energy, when you are going down the slide, you are gaining kinice energy.

A water slide works with gravity and friction. With out gravity the person would fall. Gravity is what keeps us on the ground. Friction is what keeps our cars frome sliding of the road. If you are asking your self what in the world does this have to do with water slides. Well gravity is what keeps you on the water slide. Friction is what makes you not fling off. #5-Jacob C. #12-Christian

☺One thing that you☺ need is gravity, it has to be going down to make kenetic energy, the water in the ludricates taht reduces the fraction between you and the slide, the slide applies a force that works aganist, and the gravity slowing your axeleration. #1 #4

☺ Water Slide ☺

When you walk up the stairs to get to the top of a waterslide you are building something called potential energy. When you go down the slide you are making kinetic energy. The water on a slide makes other thing you need is gravity because gravity pulls you down.
